Today I’m celebrating my mom, Sandy. This is my mom at my age, 32 in 1991 ? My mom has taught me to never give up on anything. She’s taught me to persevere and to push even harder when things aren’t going my way. She’s also taught me never to limit myself. This learnt self-belief has lead me to amazing parts of the world and incredible experiences. ‘“Us Bates girls (her maiden name) are made of strong stuff”, I’ve heard her say more than once – referring to my gran, herself and me. And how right she is. From my mom I’ve also learnt to see the best in people and that kindness and inclusivity is key to happiness. Growing up, our house had ‘elastic’ walls – there was always one more plate of dinner or mattress on the floor for every neighbourhood kid who wanted to stay over. Our home was loud with laughter over many, many cups of tea. “Tea to warm the cockles of your heart” – another Sandy quote. There was no disappointment or heartache that a cup of tea with my mom couldn’t solve (this is still true today). My mom has always drawn people in with her magnetic goodness and the immediate ease that people feel when with her. This is testament to the fact that she still sees every single one of her SA friends when she visits from Australia and she’s made such a close knit group in Perth in just 5 years. Beyond all, my mom is absolutely generous of her time and giving of her love. She’s our family’s glue. Our daily overseas phone calls and what’s apps are something I treasure. Beyond blessed to have my mom as my mom. Happy Mother’s Day, mom. Hope dad, Cole & Bay spoil you today ? Love you lots xxx . . . #Petalandpost#capetown#capetownflorist#lovezabuyza#localzadesign#lovelocalza#hellopretty#capetownmag#cylcollective #capetownlikes#supportlocal#posylove#wedding#local#botanical#theprettyblog#gardenday#capetowninfo#handmadeincapetown#madeinsouthafrica#lokalza#durbanville#proudlysouthafrican#workingwomanwednesday
