Meet the Team: Our Florists Share Their Favorite Blooms

At Petal&Post, flowers aren’t just something we deliver – they’re woven into our daily lives. Each member of our all-women management team has a bloom that feels especially meaningful to them, tied to childhood memories, personal milestones, or simply the joy it brings when it arrives fresh from the farm.

If you’ve ever wondered “What flowers do florists love most?” or “Why do certain flowers feel so meaningful?”  This is a peek behind the scenes at the stems we hold closest to our hearts.

What does choosing a favourite flower mean to us?

Choosing a favorite flower often has little to do with appearance alone. Some blooms are loved for their fragrance or fleeting season, others for their symbolism or the memories they carry. For us, these choices remind us that flowers aren’t just stems wrapped in paper – they’re stories, emotions, and connections to people and moments. For our team, these favorites are tied to personal stories – the kind of connections that make flowers feel so much more than just stems in a box.

Lindo – Studio Lead, Durban

Favorite bloom: Chamomile (Daisy)

“For me, it has to be chamomile or daisy flowers. Their cute, quirky look takes me straight back to childhood. I also love that chamomile is known for its calming health benefits –  who doesn’t enjoy a warm cup of chamomile tea? When they’re in the studio, their light fragrance fills the air in the most comforting way.”

Chamomile’s gentle simplicity makes it timeless – a flower that feels familiar, yet always brings delight.

Rebecca – Studio Lead, Cape Town

Favorite bloom: Amaranthus

“I adore amaranthus. It’s so dramatic – the way it drapes and hangs adds instant movement to any arrangement. It always makes me stop and stare.”

Amaranthus has become a favorite for striking, textured designs. It’s a statement stem that turns a simple bouquet into something bold and memorable. It’s a reminder that flowers don’t have to be delicate to make an impact – sometimes the most dramatic stems leave the strongest impression.

Claire – Head of Brand, Operations and Sales

Favorite bloom: Wax Flower

“I love wax flowers because they feel so whimsical – like you’ve just gathered them straight from your garden. They last beautifully, don’t come with a heavy price tag, and add a soft touch that I always appreciate.”

Wax flower is one of those blooms that makes every bouquet feel playful and delicate. Its longevity and charm make it a quiet favourite among many of our customers, too.

Jenna – Head of Tech & Logistics

Favorite bloom: Lotus Flower

“The lotus is one of the most fascinating flowers to me. It’s ancient – over 100 million years old – and it’s incredible how it cleans itself with its waxy coating and even regulates its own temperature to attract pollinators. It’s steeped in symbolism too, often representing renewal and strength. I find all of that so inspiring.”

Jenna’s choice is a reminder that flowers carry history as well as beauty. While you won’t see lotus in our posy of the week, its symbolism is a lovely reminder of the unique stories flowers can hold.

Cathera – Studio Lead, Johannesburg

Favorite bloom: Peonies

“My favorite will always be peonies. They’re my birth month flower, they were part of my wedding florals, and I even have a peony tattoo. Their fleeting season makes them feel extra special, and their fragrance is just incredible.”

Peonies are treasured worldwide for their lush blooms and intoxicating scent. For Cathera, they’re layered with personal meaning, making them more than just a seasonal flower – they’re a life-long favorite.

Some stems, like peonies or lotus, are rare or seasonal, while others, like wax flower or chamomile, are more commonly sourced from local farms. That’s the joy of flowers – they change with the seasons, and each day brings something new.
